Personal Statement
My name is Zane Whitson. I am 6’3” tall and weigh 185 lbs. I am the senior quarterback at Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN. My entire life, I have wanted to play college football have been preparing myself to do so. In addition to regular football activities and workouts, I have recently been working with a personal trainer to help me bulk up for my senior season. My father played D1 College football for the University of Minnesota and my sister currently plays D1 basketball for Middle Tennessee State University. I have the genetics to be successful, but I also have the work ethic, competitiveness, and desire to be the best.
I am constantly working to improve my leadership skills on the field, in the classroom and in the community. I lead by example and my teammates and classmates will tell you the same. In my junior year, I led the Dobyns Bennett Indians to a third round playoff appearance. Our record was 10-3 and my TD to INT ratio was 24/1. I was selected TN 6A – Region 1 MVP and awarded All-State honors during my first year as the starting QB. Additionally, I hold the 100 year old DBHS record for touchdown passes in a single game. Last year, I was named Northeast Tennessee Male Athlete of the Year. In the year prior to that, my sister was named Northeast Tennessee Female Athlete of the Year. I believe we were the first siblings to win this award in back to back years.
I thrive in high pressure situations. When the game is on the line, I want the ball in my hands. My coach has been quoted as saying I will be a big prospect for some college moving forward. I believe I will be. I will be a great leader for my college team. I love to win, but more than that, I hate to lose. Please take a look at my junior year film and keep in mind that since last season I have gained 2” in height and 30 lbs. of muscle. Please give me the opportunity to prove myself to you. It will be a decision you will never regret.
Sincerely,
Zane C. Whitson, IV
