Is there any better feeling than sacrificing and committing, as a group, to achieve a goal...and then achieving it? I don't think so.
Frisco Reedy is a new 5-A Texas high school, and my sophomore year (2016) was our first varsity season--in any sport. In football, we did not have any seniors, were out-manned and got pummeled nearly every game in a tough district. Heading into summer, we decided to hold each other accountable and set a goal of making the playoffs in 2017. I told my family that I couldn't go on summer vacation, and I retired from my summer travel baseball team in order to have time to improve and be with my teammates. I am proud to say that the Lions not only made the playoffs, but we finished the season 9-1. It was great to be a big contributor, and I don't think I will ever forget scoring two touchdowns while beating our arch rival, Frisco Wakeland, in Week 5. More importantly, we made memories, as a team, that will not be forgotten.
Spring 2018 will be my first off-season ever, as I have been a three-sport varsity athlete (football, basketball, baseball). I expect to be faster, quicker, stronger and bigger for my senior year and am beyond excited to see what the future holds. Overcoming adversity on the football field and then achieving success by sticking together is a lesson that will carry me through whatever lies ahead.
