My name is Stephen Stevens. My mum liked the name so much she named me twice. I started playing football at 12 years old when I moved to Canada from England. I have always dreamt of following in my uncle's footsteps, who played for the Chicago Bears ever since I was five years old but living in England meant it would be a more challenging dream to achieve. Once my parents told me we were moving to Canada in 2018, I knew it was time. I signed up to join my local football team (The Titans) the same year we arrived. The first day I stepped on the field, I knew this was no longer about my uncle. This was about me, and this was what I was born to do, and I will take it to the highest level with God by my side. I know that playing in college is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could change my whole life and fulfill all my childhood dreams.
I am constantly working to improve my skills and training to get bigger, faster and stronger. Thanks to my family’s support, I play in different programs. In the fall, I play for my high school football team; in spring, I play for the Mavericks football team, training four days a week and playing a game against other teams once a week; in the summer, I am fortunate to spend time with my cousin Daniel who currently plays with the Aztecs at San Diego State University training to become better. In the winter, I play with the Selects football team, competing in provincial games in Canada and the United States, where I intend on going to college. I played in the San Antonio Selects tournament in March of 2022, where I won MVP for our game against the Texas Raptors. I lead by example while encouraging my teammates; I am a team leader. I am very coachable and strive to be one of the hardest working players and one of the hardest working recruits you will find.
I displayed this in the winter of 2021, with only three practices left before the tournament. The primary RB had a bad injury, and my coach asked me to switch from LB to RB, a challenge I took on, willing and so grateful I did. It was my first-time playing RB, but I played it so well. I went to the tournament in Texas and played both RB and LB and did terrific in both positions. Don’t believe me check out my 2022 highlight video.
In the classroom, I study hard and maintain high grades. I want to attend a college where I can push myself in school and on the football field. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. I hope to become a great role model to all my peers and make my family proud.
