Personal Statement
Being born into a small town lifestyle has greatly influenced my life. Although I'm only entering my sophomore year in high school, I've faced many challenges. Going into my 7th grade year I never played a down of football, I was held at a disadvantage to the majority of the other kids who were on my team. At the time my head coach didn't think much of me I was 5'8 and 150lbs, I wasn't a starter all year on the B-team. During the summer of my 8th grade year, I focused on improving myself and I started going to workout camps, football camps and personally working out on my own. As the summer ended and practice began I knew it was time to show the coaches that I was A-team material. Even though I started on the B-team, I was determined to be a starter on the A-team. It was my third game and coach Blaylock came up to me and told he wants me to start on the A-team. This is when I knew that once Freshman football came around I was ready to go to the next level.
During that summer something inside of me clicked, I was able to read plays, run plays and, read the defense. I studied my positions I watched the varsity, read their moves and plays. I watched videos of professionals and how they moved how they read the field. By the start of the season coach Carpenter personally told me I will start on offence as his Left Tackle. Later that day coach Walling stopped me and told me he liked how hard I was working, he said to me he wants me to start for him at the right Defensive End. All of my hard work payed off I went from never playing a down of football to 2 years later starting my freshman year.
