Personal Statement
As a freshman, I was the only non-senior starter on varsity. Because of this I was able to learn valuable leadership skills at a young age. During my sophomore year there were no seniors on the team. Every opposing coach over looked us as a young developing team who they thought would be an easy win. That year I led my team to a district championship and advanced to the regional quarter-finals before losing a hard fought game. Unfortunately, my junior year I fractured my left wrist in the middle of the season. It was agonizing having to sit on the bench and not be on the court helping my team win. Luckily, I healed quickly and came back to lead my team in a pivotal district win that clinched a playoff berth. As a 4 seed we defeated a 1 seed in the first round of the playoffs. It was extra sweet, because it was the team that knocked us out the year before.
The experience of being on a team and being mentored by amazing coaches has helped shape who I am as a student and athlete. Teamwork, commitment, sacrifice, leadership, and selflessness are all valuable traits I have gained by these experiences. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically, as well as academically. I believe I have the character, work ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program. While in college I hope to graduate with a degree in the health care field while continuing to play a sport I love and look forward to forming relationships with teammates and coaches that will last a lifetime.
