Growing up I loved football, but I mostly wanted to play receiver. My dad kept telling me that I could throw a ball further than any kid my age he had ever seen and that I should try quarterback. So, when I was 13, I went to California for a weekend to do some training sessions with 3DQB. That day I fell in love with playing quarterback and it hasn't stopped since. I love everything about it -- studying, practicing, watching film, and of course putting the pads on for game day. My goal is to be one of the best to ever play the position. I know that a lot of kids who love football, and would probably be some of the hardest workers on any team, don't have the size or athleticism to realistically have a shot to make a career in football. So I know that I am fortunate in that way and I don't that for granted. I want to maximize every bit of potential that I have and want to be pushed by my coaches to bring that out in me. I want to know everything there is to know about offensive strategy, play concepts, how to read defenses, and how the all-time greats got to where they were.
In school, I am leaning toward studying sports medicine or something similar to that. I couldn't honestly say I have the same level of passion for school that I do for football, but I know that it is important and I know that I can't go as far in football as I want without taking care of business in school and getting good grades.
At the time of writing this, I just finished my first high school game about 40 hours ago, starting varsity as a sophomore for Westlake, a 6A high school in Utah. It was everything I hoped it would be. We ended up beating another 6A team (the highest classification in our state) on the road, in overtime, on a walk off 2-point conversion. I made some mistakes, missed some reads, and forced some throws I shouldn't have. I will learn from that and be better each week. But the thing I am most proud of from the game is that after I took a monster hit that drew a flag (by far the hardest hit I have ever taken in my life) with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter, just a few plays later I threw my first varsity touchdown in overtime to set up the game-winning 2-point conversion. It was an amazing start to what I hope will be a very long career playing the game I love.
