As a freshman, I had some field time on the Varsity squad, mostly for punting or returning kicks. I have grown a lot since then, mostly in my ability to play as part of a team. I have never been cocky, even after a good play. When I score or get a first down, I like to go back and give my lead back or lineman a high five. I know that it takes teamwork before any talent to win games. I do much better in game situations than in drills. I always give it 100% every play, whether I am blocking, faking a handoff, or actually getting the ball. I never want to get tackled and will do everything I can to get that extra yard or break free of the last defensive back. This is what allowed me to break the single season rushing record at my school. It also set me up to easily beat high school career rushing record. My high school team is currently coming up from a drought. There hasn’t been a whole lot of success the past few years, but my team is working hard to turn it around. As for baseball, I have started every year of high school as our catcher. I was also picked to be one of two captains as a sophomore and junior. I earned this because I put the extra hours and effort in trying to make myself better, and unlike our football program, you don’t need to be a senior to be nominated.
I have always loved football. I wanted to join Pop-Warner as soon as I knew about it, although I wasn’t old enough. Since I was too young, my parents let me compete in flag football. I always had fun with my friends, but it was nothing like putting the pads on and being able to compete. I enjoyed football ever since my first year of playing it, but when I really started to love the game, was my sixth grade year. I felt this way because my coach related it to everyday life and becoming a man. He also showed me how important teamwork was and how it helps one win and create strong relationships with your friends.
At home I have a loving family who cares about my life as an athlete, but always goes by the words of “student first”. They love to come to my games and cheer me on and talk to me about how they thought the game went and how I thought it went. I also have a girlfriend of about two years to whom I am dedicated.
