When do you feel you truly get done with your race? Most runners will give the same answer, “when I cross the finish line”. I believe there is a difference though, between finishing A race, and finishing YOUR race. The easiest way to explain this, is by saying that your greatest opponent when you're running is yourself. Fortunately for me, I am my greatest ally when running. While others may give into the pain or exhaustion, I feed off it. The victorious feeling of passing the runner ahead of you by far makes up for any temporary aches or pains. While competing at Weyauwega-Fremont High School, I was a varsity member of both the Cross Country and Track and Field teams, and always possessed a desire to be in the front of the pack. This competitive spirit is what inspires me to make the jump to college athletics. I know I will have numerous opportunities to compete for schools due to my athletic, as well as academic success. With PR's of 18:50 in the 5K, 11:47 in the 3200, 5:17 in the 1600, and 2:22 in the 800; as well as a GPA of 3.88, and a composite ACT score of 29, I am confident there is a place for me in college athletics.
“A runner's creed: I will win; if I cannot win, I shall be second; if I cannot be second, I shall be third; if I cannot place at all, I shall still do my best.”
-Ken Doherty
