At age 3 my dad purchased a mini-hoop for me. At 5 my mom signed me up to play in the YMCA league. I quickly learned I was pretty good at basketball. I was hooked... line... and buckets.
In 9th grade I was extremely happy not only to make the high school varsity team but was a starter. My role as a player had transitioned from a post player to the wing. In order to succeed, I worked on my ball handling skills and outside shooting. This time was well spent as I was also interested in the Point Guard position going into my Sophomore year.
I broke out in my Sophomore year. I received the MVP award in our opening tournament, earned multiple all tourney and all state teams at Regions and States, as well as had several player of the game awards during the State championships. My school felt short of the championship, but as the starting point guard, I accepted the responsibility for the loss. I do credit my parents for their endless support, my high school coaches for pushing me to learn the sport every day, and my trainers for preparing me for the future.
I'm a 6-5 stretch 5 that can play all five positions as well as guard all 5 positions. I am willing to do all the extra work for my team and coaches. You ask me to do it and I will. I've even started to focus more on defense, making sure I earn the school's defense player of the year in my Junior year. I understand how nutrition is important to an athlete. Knowing what I put in my body matters. Hydration. Hydration. Hydration. I am a responsible, dedicated, and an unselfish person and player.
Overall I can say my biggest obstacle over the last few years was to travel on my own and play on a national travel team out of state, leaving my family for the summers. And yet, with all the support around me, I know I will succeed, earning a high school diploma while maintaining at least a GPA of 3.5, as well as earn a degree in college, all while playing basketball.
I will not disappoint if you invest in me.
