Almost every player of any sport has a reason they do what they do. Whether it’s to better their family’s financial struggle, Or to make a family member proud to see them make it out of their hardship. Being small I always looked forward to seeing my mom at the end of the bench at our local YMCA keeping stats, giving players water, or even icing a rolled ankle, it was the best thing feeling ever while I was playing. As I grew she was my backbone the person i could go to when my dad was pushing me to be better. She was the reason I stuck with basketball.
Summer of my 7th grade year going into the 8th grade a lot changed in my family. After coming back from the Kansas Kick-Off Basketball Tournament, my mom was diagnosed with a rare form of Pneumonia and Interstitial Lung Disease. While she was in the hospital she told me to attend the Las Vegas Jam On It Tournament with my competitive Team. I was leaving not knowing if she was going to live. My mom fought through all the adversity she went through during that time. Seeing her fight to walk up the stairs and breath properly, gives me enough motivation to do any task that is put in front of me! She is truly the definition of a Hero and she’s the reason I have so much passion for the game of basketball.
