Personal Statement
Basketball has taught me time management, goal setting, teamwork and commitment to name a few life lessons. I am looking for a college that best fits me academically and athletically. I have set a goal to play Division I college basketball and I am working hard to meet that goal. Playing basketball at a collegiate level would mean I would get the opportunity to keep playing the game, I have come to love, competitively. On the court, I lead by example. I encourage my teammates to stay positive and give 110%. I also lead by example academically, I work very hard to maintain my GPA. My biggest priorities in life is God, family and school, but my passion is basketball. Every single thing I do is devoted to being a better basketball player and teammate, that means in the classroom and on the court. I don't focus on striving to be better than others, I strive to be better myself every day. I am willing to explore all opportunities and options.
If I make it to a college level, the journey will just be a new beginning for me. During college, I will push myself past my own personal limits to be the best I can be. I will strive to be the teams best leader and produce on the court while setting good examples off the court through good moral character and sound judgement. My plan through the next phase of my life is to continue my education as well as reaching the next level of basketball. The game of basketball is extremely attractive to me. College basketball offers a higher level of competition and gives greater challenges that I would like to take on. College and college basketball can offer so much to a student-athlete. It could prepare me as an individual for adulthood that lies ahead. As a college student I would offer my ability to display a positive attitude in the classroom. And, as an athlete in a college basketball program, I would set high expectations for myself. I am willing to help the school, the team and the program be better off, any way that I can. It would offer me the ability to stay organized and to remain focused.
It offers me the ability to plan and it offers a great way for me to get ready for my life ahead. Maintaining of all these skills could lead to a demanding career. A career that I would be prepared for. Performing tasks like going to class, maintaining high grades, basketball, watching films, and staying conditioned requires a lot of responsibility. These are things that are needed in order to become successful on and off the court. They call it student-athlete not athlete-student for a reason. The efforts I must put in the classroom must be as strong or as much stronger than I do on the court. Not achieving in school means there is no basketball.
