Personal Statement
My name is Alexander Williams and I am very interested in becoming a student athlete at the college level. I attend Maret School, a high academic private school located in Washington, DC. As a pre-law student, I hope to play basketball for a university committed to providing transformative experiences for their students which prepare them for leadership in a complex world.
Playing varsity as a freshman limited my minutes, but we had great success as an elite team in the region. We finished 2nd in the Washington, DC behind Gonzaga, and several of our players receive D1 offers from schools such as Iowa, Wake Forest, and Yale. I am currently a sophomore returning to the varsity team at Maret, coached by Chuck Driesell. I love the game of basketball because it allows me the opportunity to compete, prepare, and work with others in a team-oriented environment. I am very coachable and strive to be one of the hardest working players for any team I am a part of.
On the AAU circuit last year, I had an outstanding season playing with 6th Man, an Adidas sponsored team. I averaged 15.7 points per game and our team was 17-4. I quickly became recognized as an athletic 6'1" combo guard, with great court vision and amazing 3-point range. Prior to joining 6th Man, I have played with Baltimore United, MD Playmakers which were both sponsored teams on the Under Armor Circuit. I was also selected as a top 40 selection at the FAB Frosh camp in Atlanta, GA which features some of the best freshman players in the nation. I have great court vision, a high basketball IQ and enjoy defending elite offensive players.
Off the court, I am growing as a student athlete. The 9th grade transition from a average public school to a high academic private school was very challenging. I have worked hard with teachers and advisors and am now beginning to excel in the classrooml. I plan to attend a college where I excel academically and play for a team oriented program that competes at a high level.
