Hello,
My name is Taylor Thompson, but most people know me as Tayo or simply Tay. First and foremost, I am a child of God. I am a 6'2 Point Guard and h without hesitation can honestly say I was born to play basketball because I have so much love for the sport. Every day that I step foot onto the court, I give 110% of everything I have in me. I am Blessed to do something every day that brings me so much happiness. I am someone who knows that my passion and my purpose are one in the same, which is why I am so committed.
I love the game so much until, I have become a scholar of the sport. Although LeBron is my favorite player, I study Chris Paul and Darius Garland. Their reads of the pnr, finding open gaps, and leadership on the floor are all things I mimic in my own game.
Some of the accomplishments that I am most proud of are being chosen to play a critical role on my school's Varsity team as a freshman and earning the trust and respect of my coaches through hard work and dedication. As a starting guard on my team, I had no choice but to learn how to quickly become a major contributor, with very little room for errors. I worked on perfecting my skills around the clock, all while maintaining an above average GPA. I would say that my ball handling skills sets me apart from most but my ability to close out games and hit big shots in the clutch is what has proven to be my most featured quality. This past year, being the leader of the team and the most seasoned, I was used more as a combo guard than in previous years. I believe that being able to adapt to change, quickly and efficiently, benefited me greatly because I was able to see the game from so many different angles.
During my freshman year, I take pride in saying that our team was one of three teams from the Jacksonville, FL area to earn the opportunity to compete for the State Championship. We worked very hard to get there and fought even harder to stay. I was the 2nd highest scorer during that game which earned me a lot of news coverage and press. We gave it our all but was just not successful at the final hour. Although we were the last Jacksonville team standing coming in 2nd place, I vowed to work as hard as I could to one day grace that stage again before graduating. I was so grateful that God had provided me with a preview into what it was going to be like the next time our team was put back on that same stage to earn the #1 spot as State Champions. Be on the lookout and remember my name because I am coming with a vengeance.
