My name is Anthony but I can’t remember being called anything but AJ, just like I cannot remember a time when my life didn’t involve basketball. I owe this love of the game to my father and uncle, who both played at a high level and passed their knowledge on to me.
At 6’10 and 7’0, respectively, they both played Division 1 basketball. My father played at The College of William and Mary, while my uncle earned a National Championship ring playing at the University of North Carolina, then going on to play NBA for two years followed by a career in Europe. Just as I learned my love of the sport from them, they did from their father, who played at the University of South Carolina and went on to then play in the American Basketball Association.
Like them, I know how to use my strengths on the court to contribute to the overall play of the team as a whole. I love to watch both collegiate and NBA games as I have been taught that you often will learn as much, if not more, by studying the game as you can by playing.
When I graduate high school, I have a few months until I turn 18. Because I am young, I understand a coach may look to me as a red-shirt for a season as my physical growth will not catch up to my basketball IQ for a few years. In the meantime, I would look forward to working hard to further my basketball skills and to also gain the respect of my teammates and coaches.
Because my size and skills offer the flexibility to play as a power forward, shooting guard or small forward, finding a coach that recognizes my current skills, significant growth potential and keen ability to adapt quickly will be key factors in where I choose to attend college.
I am looking for a program that would provide a good balance for both scholastics and basketball. The areas of study that interest me are Business/Finance and Film Study/Broadcasting.
In my senior year, I look forward to helping my high school team with another winning season, continuing to focus on my grades, raising my SAT scores and toward learning where the best fit is for me collegiately.
