Personal Statement
My mother is a University of Florida graduate, so all my life I have been bathed in the orange and blue. Everything in her office is Gator this and Gator that. She always says if it's not Florida it better be SEC. Then she started saying if it is not SEC, it better be HBCU. Now she says, "Do you son because I did me." So I say that any college that has place for a hardworking kid with a goofy attitude is the school for me. Many players in my generation, and from my race, would say that they had a tough background and they had to fend for themselves. That is not the case with me. My mom is a principal and my dad is a director of technology. I have not had to worry about eating, health, or safety. That doesn't mean that I have not had issues because if you know my mom, you would know that she expects excellence. So what sets me apart from other players is I understand what it is to grind, to work hard, and to listen. I do not think too highly of myself to believe that I cannot be coached and that I have things to learn. I accept guidance and I work to implement what I am told. Based on that feedback, I then take it upon myself to work harder. Academically, I am number three in my class and I take honors and college courses. I would love to say that I am just naturally smart, but the reality is I work to make sure that I am doing what is required. Ideally, a basketball centered school with pre-med would be my ideal fit.
