Mert Gocer '25 Recruiting Profile

Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to introduce myself through this essay. 

I am a very disciplined, passionate, target-oriented, hardworking, friendly and a team player person. I have a strong motivation to continue both my academic and athletic career.

Academically, I have attended Açı Schools (https://www.acischools.k12.tr/) throughout my educational journey, and I am currently enrolled at Açı High School (https://www.acischools.k12.tr/lise/hakkinda-4/). I have consistently maintained high grades, achieving a CGPA of 94.67 in secondary school, and continued success in high school with a CGPA of 92.72 in both 9th and 10th grades. I have always had the highest grade in Mathematics, which is also my favorite subject. Due to my academic performance, I was awarded an academic scholarship at my school.

Despite my strong academic achievements, basketball has always remained my top priority. Currently, I am an active player for Darussafaka (https://darussafakabasketbol.com/), competing in the U16, U18, and BGL categories. Last year, I had the opportunity to play for Besiktas (https://bjk.com.tr/tr/brans/2/basketbol.html), where I was a member of the U15, U16, and U18 teams. Driven by my passion for basketball, I plan to continue my basketball journey with Darussafaka in the upcoming season. Additionally, I have had the honor of being selected for the U16 national team to represent my country in the international competitions.

As I believe the ultimate goal to prepare for life after basketball is important, I aim to develop the knowledge and skills to succeed off the court by managing my future earnings wisely. In my opinion, being successful in one job does not mean you cannot do the same in another. All it takes is the same commitment to excellence and hard work. This is why I have a desire to pursue a major in Economics and Finance.

When selecting a college, I want to attend a college that is strong academically, with a particular interest in NCAA Division 1 schools and Ivy League Colleges. As for preferred U.S. cities, I have no specific preferences.

I hope to find the best-fit college basketball team that offers a full scholarship, enabling me to pursue my athletic career while obtaining a quality education. Ultimately, in the coming years I dream about becoming a professional basketball player on the NBA or Euroleague teams, equiped with a solid educational background.
