Personal Statement
Basketball has always been a big part of my life. I’ve always loved the lifestyle that comes with the game. Playing varsity basketball my freshman year of high school was a very humbling experience for me. It was a beneficial learning experience and has really helped me become the player I am today. I feel that I am a very good leader because of my playing experiences as an underclassman. Learning from my older teammates and picking up on their leadership skills has been very helpful.
My sophomore year, I earned the starting point guard position and achieved All-Conference Honorable Mention. After completing my junior season this year, I was honored with First Team All-Conference.
I'm an unselfish player who has a very good understanding of teamwork and being “a star in your role” on your team. I like to get my teammates involved by setting them up for good scoring opportunities. I also take pride in my defense. I love when I can lock up and shut down the opposing team's primary ball handler. I enjoy playing for teams that set their teammates up to score and play as a team to win. I play with my eyes and head up, always looking to push the ball in transition. I have excellent court vision and court awareness. I can create shots for myself off the dribble as well as scoring off screens and spotting up. I can move without the ball in my hands and am a good cutter. I have a very good work ethic and am always looking for ways to get better.
Through playing basketball, I’ve learned that you’ve got to take advantage of all your opportunities. Whether it’s a game or just practice, it’s important to always make the most out of every opportunity presented to you. I am someone who has good morals as a person and is looking to do the right thing.
I desire to attend a college where I can pursue my education as well as continue my basketball career to the greatest extent possible.
