Being the oldest of three siblings has shaped me into who I am today. This position brings a lot of responsibility with it in having to set an example for my younger siblings. Growing up with them has taught me a lot about respect in how to act on and off the court knowing they look up to me.
Naturally the weather in Northern Michigan does not always cooperate, so it is essential to stay positive and push through the adversity of our harsh weather conditions. I have played basketball my whole life, along with football and track. I have always excelled in basketball more so than the other two sports, which has raised my confidence and made me enjoy the sport much more. In playing basketball, I have learned how to be a completely different person on and off the court. Off the court, I feel that I am very laid back and emotionally never get too up or too down. On the other hand, when I am on the court, my emotions let loose which makes me play at a higher level. I have learned to enjoy working hard in training for basketball knowing that it is making me a better player.
My academic goal for high school has always been to maintain a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher. Now that I have accomplished that, I am working to get it above 3.75, while partaking in a very challenging class schedule.
A characteristic that has helped me through all of this is without a doubt, leadership. For instance, I play the quarterback position in football which forces me to be vocal and lead my teammates. I’ve learned what to say and when to say it to whom I’m saying it to. This has crossed over into playing basketball for me. I have experienced that when I am a more vocal player, a leader on the floor, my team plays at a higher level together.
