I have been passionate about basketball, since before I could fully talk, says adults in my family. I starting playing peewee basketball at the age of 2 and have never stopped. I sought out basketball programs and specific trainers to work with, in addition to playing for school teams and community teams, as well as AAU. I am very focused and committed to perfecting my basketball skills.
Wanting t learn everything that I could about basketball, I've researched multiple sports, players, their success stories, backgrounds and their health records. After noting that many pay attention when things are going great, but few care to support the players' needs to regaining their health after an injury, I felt driven to learn more about the field of Sports Med as an occupation. Observing the trainers in my team programs and talking with several working in the field elsewhere, gave me more motivation. I've learned that when I become passionate about something, I put my all into it and continue to seek ways to improve myself. I believe it's fair to say, I could see myself working in this field.
I am very much a team player, as demonstrated in my team assists, and mentoring younger players. I believe it is very important for the team to be cohesive both on and off the courts. In my free-time, I can be found in local gyms working on my own skills, mentoring younger students or discussing the sport with older or more experienced players. I guess you can say basketball is my genes. My father and both grand-fathers played the sport in high school and beyond and are very supportive of me playing, as are many members of my immediate family.
I have never loss sight of academics as a key to playing basketball. From very early in life, I was told I could only play if my grades were good. I quickly learned that several subjects were also helpful in perfecting basketball for me. It was then that I realized they go hand in glove (academics and sports). I enjoy the life science courses and do very well in them. I also have a well versed family, in health care, which supports my interests in Sports Med. To ensure success in both school and sports, I allocate ample time to both to prepare and perform.
