Personal Statement
My name is Trevor Barrett and I am a reclassified junior in the class of 2023 at Trinity Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina. My dream of playing college basketball began when I was in the second grade, when I began playing in a competitive travel league and participating in drills at my older brothers' travel/AAU team practices run by my father, who played at Amherst College for legendary coach and 2022 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Nominee, Dave Hixon. My mother also played soccer at Amherst College, so sports (including baseball and soccer) have run in my family since I was a child.
I'm seeking a collegiate program that will help me reach my full potential as a basketball player and a student. This additional year of high school, combined with more concentrated individual skill and strength/conditioning training, has given me even more confidence that I can compete at the next level as an efficient lead and/or scoring guard. Offensively, I believe I am capable of making plays for myself at all three levels and am as comfortable setting up my teammates in transition or the half court. On defense, I believe I have significantly improved my strength and conditioning in order to keep guys in front of me and become a stronger rebounder. In terms of skill and physical development (my father and oldest brother both grew 4-5 inches between high school and college), I believe my finest basketball days are still ahead of me.
Academically, I am more of a math and science kid. I have always liked math and science more throughout my academic career. Studying math and/or science is my interest in college. In my free time I love hanging out with my teammates and friends. I also enjoy watching Netflix and NBA/College basketball with my family. My relationships are very important to me, so in my spare time I try to spend time with those I love.
Finally, I have had a few tough life experiences that have prepared me to handle any difficulty or obstacles that may arise during my college career.
