My name is Jonah Micheal Stains. I am a student athlete at Shalom Christian Academy. Although my love for sports is strong, I believe that academics is most important. I believe that I should work as hard as I can in the classroom as well as on the court. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA since my arrival at Shalom in sixth grade. I also found my love for basketball in sixth grade when I made the middle school team. I remember being behind many of my other friends that played, and I wanted to be as good as them. I worked on my game day in and day out and attended camps such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Shippensburg College to further improve my skills. As I grew taller and stronger I noticed that my basketball skills also grew. As a result of wanting to be great, I asked many questions to my coaches and became very coachable. I found myself surpassing goals that I, and even my coaches, had set for myself. I worked harder and harder in any drill that we did. To this day, I still push myself to my limits because I want to be great. Over the years, I've learned to appreciate my teammates and the team I play for. I try my hardest to positively represent the school I play for and maintain a good relationship with all of my teammates. Two of the most important things that I've been told, and that have shaped me into the player that I am today are "You are a leader, anything you do on the court and off, someone will always be watching", and "Don't let your natural skill be enough to satisfy you; always work to improve yourself and be unstoppable in anything you do." Pick me to play for your team and I promise you that I will work as hard as I can academically and athletically. I want to take my game to the collegiate level and progress to the professional level.
