My name is Ian Williams and I attend Daniel High School; coached by Mr. Ben Touchberry, in Upstate South Carolina. I also play travel ball for Next Level Elite headed by Mr. Angus Anderson.
I am a 6’3” swing player who is a senior with a 3.65 unweighted and a 4.45 weighted GPA.
As a player, I am a willing passer, a vocal leader and someone who does not need the ball in my hands to make an impact on the game. I excel in rebounding, finishing around the rim and doing the little things that lead to a successful team. I led our team in rebounding and often guarded the opposing teams #1 option. Coach Touchberry stated in our end of the year awards banquet that my willingness to do the little things was the glue which made our game plan work successfully.
In the 2022-23 season, our team won our region with an 8-2 region record and an overall record of 21-8. Our season saw our team win the Region 1 AAA Championship and reached the 3rd round (Elite 8) of the SC state playoffs.
With both of my parents being former college student-athletes, I believe that finding a coach, a team and a campus community that ‘fits’ me is essential to my spiritual, academic and athletic growth.
Coach Touchberry states: Ian has a desire to ensure a quality education while also pursing playing basketball at the collegiate level. I am sure you get emails all the time about certain players, but please know that you will not find anyone that will work harder, smarter, and more diligent than Ian. He is a very versatile player that stands at 6’3. He is a jack of all trades with the ability to play with a high motor at ALL times. While we allow him to push the break, shoot 3’s, and attack the basket, Ian has a natural ability to be at the right spot at the right time. He leads our team (21-6 in AAA) in rebounding while also shooting a very high percentage (all stats are on maxpreps as well). He is one of the most coachable players I have ever coached!!!! With his father (basketball) and his mom (track) both having college athletic experience in playing and coaching, I am certain he will be a diamond in the rough for a program in the near future (2024-2025). His work ethic is second to none and his IQ is continuing to grow.
