Personal Statement
My family has always said that the start of my passion for sports, of all kinds, started as early as age one. For most of my early years, my Nana raised me, she recognized there was nothing in life I loved more than to throw balls. When I picked up my first basketball, I was hooked. I used to carry a basketball everywhere. One of my favorite pass times growing up was to watch different NBA players and try to mimic their style of play. My last year in elementary school, I was excited to hear they would allow sixth graders to tryout for the middle school basketball team for the first time, that was the longest week of my life as I poured out sweat and hard work in determination to start my dream. On Friday, I ran with breathless anticipation to look at the list and I was the first name on the list. In my eyes this was the biggest accomplishment in my life to date. That year, I was the first kid in my middle school to ever start as a sixth grader and I -worked hard to continue as a starter for the rest of my middle school and high school career.
I have always been my worst critic in sports, in my mind I had to play to perfection in each game. It was in my eighth grade year that an injury forced me to sit back and realize that focusing mentally and physically on the character of self-dedication and being a leader for my team would make me a better player and therefore give us a better team. My motto has always been, "To come back harder and better from every game, win or lose! I can always do better and learn more. NEVER give-up on your dream!" I have had many career highs, championships, and game winning moments throughout my three-sport athletics in high school, but my goal has always been to study hard, and practice hard towards an athletic scholarship. I believe that my 100% dedication mentally and physically towards my dream of playing college ball will make me a good addition to your team.
