I grew up in a family where participating in sports was just what we did. Even though I competed at the highest level possible in youth track and field by qualifying for the National Junior Olympics when I was younger, it wasn’t until I started playing basketball with the community league that I found my true passion. After a few years of playing with them and learning the basics about the game, I moved on to AAU competitions. Just this past summer, before my sophomore year in high school, I would say that I grew the most in understanding the game, understanding what I am truly capable of on the court, and understanding what basketball means to me and the role it will play in my future.
Last summer my game noticeably changed because I got stronger offensively, as well as defensively, physically, and mentally. Through hard work and persistence, by the end of the summer I was scoring double-doubles every game, I was invited to participate in Rucker on Wood here in Houston, Texas, and when I returned to school my sophomore year, I earned a spot on the Varsity team who made it to the playoffs this year. Through playing basketball I realize that I am a team player and an asset to any team that I am a part of, that I am coachable and know that there is always room for improvement, and that I am humble because I let my game speak for me. I am a determined young man and through hard work on and off the court.
