My will to succeed, learn, and grow is what drives my passion, and my life is now incomplete without basketball. At 17-years-old as a rising senior with a height of 6’4, I have come a long way, but I refuse to be content as I truly understand that the work never stops. Until four years ago, I did not have a real interest in basketball, I preferred martial arts, cross country, and swimming. During late 2021, I discovered my true passion for basketball, picking up the ball beyond PE classes and from there I started practicing countless hours each day, researching, and working with training coaches. I made the Mountain View High School freshman team in Nov 2022 and through hard work improved myself making starting lineups in various positions. The next year I would continue to grow and would be selected and play in the Varsity Fall League Games, as well as make my Junior Varsity team.
But the work didn’t stop there, as I began to grow and advance in my game, I continued to look for more challenges and more competition to push myself. During spring of 2024, later into the AAU season, I was recruited by the Fairfax Stars to play up in 17U tournaments during a game. In the summer of 2024, I played and earned silver in the United World Games as team USA PHD Hoops in the 16U bracket, and was able to experience overseas competition. And now this year, I truly prepared myself to enter the path to college basketball by having attended Gillion Basketball Academy, a basketball/academic-oriented school in Springfield, Virginia. Attending this school has allowed me to play older age groups along with elite players, i.e. varsity and Post-graduate level competition. As my junior year season with Gillion Basketball Academy comes to a close, I have grown significantly, and grinded every day in order to grow, learn, and become better every single day.
Coming a long way from starting as a center and power forward during my freshman year, being exposed to the next level has allowed me to realize it was unrealistic for recruitability, and I am now working hard to transfer my paint work and rebounding to play as a guard/forward. I will work to become a versatile player on the court, able to guard multiple positions, and upgrade my play-style. I continue to improve my skills through scrimmaging, drills and shooting each day, and attending training sessions. I truly understand that my work here has just begun, it will take years of hard work to master my game and craft. I have dedicated myself to doing so. One of my biggest attributes, humbleness, keeps me hungry and working on the court for hours. My coaches believe in my raw talent and say that I am coachable.
In addition to my passion for basketball, I am passionate about education. I believe that to be a great athlete, you must also be a great student. I have and currently take AP courses, and have taken Honors classes in my freshman and sophomore years of high school. In Dec 2022 I was selected by exception for a scholarship program as a high school freshman to be dual enrolled in an Cybersecurity associate level degree program. To date I have maintained a high GPA in all coursework, passed two CompTIA certifications, and am on track to graduate summer 2025 with my AS degree in Cybersecurity and Networking as well as begin my AS in Health Sciences and Physical Education while still in high school. My dream is to continue my college education and play college basketball, feeding both passions and preparing me for a career into adulthood.
