My name is Joaquin Vazquez and I am looking to attend college on an athletic scholarship to play basketball. I strongly believe I am a player you would desire on your team, as well as a student you will want to attend your institution.
I genuinely believe I am a natural leader. I am always vocal on the court and pride myself in my ability to be as positive and encouraging as possible. I believe in the statement “defense before offense” and “defense wins championships”. I take much honor in my defense. I can guard multiple positions even with my size, and I tend to display many essential qualities that don’t reflect on typical stat sheets. When it comes to scoring, I am more than capable of doing so, but I am not selfish, and I will always make the proper play.
I also believe I am unique from other recruits due to my uncommon position as a home-schooled student. I have learned a lot during my years of home-school education. It has taught me character traits such as self-motivation and responsibility. These traits are something I will utilize for a lifetime. With my education being home-based, I was always overlooked by teams due to the fact I wasn’t in their systems or well-known in the area.
Another challenge that I had to overcome is discovering my love for basketball late in my sports career. Starting in the 9th grade I quickly realized I had a long road ahead of me if I wanted to play at a higher level. I made the decision to dedicate the necessary training to be the best. I am fully dedicated to this sport and know I am wise enough to understand that training, discipline, and knowledge are infinite. I believe if the proper coach were to give me a chance, I will be an incredible addition to the team.
Academically I want to pursue a career in athletic training. Through my personal training, and the mentors I have had the privilege to work with, I am confident that this is the career field I want to specialize in. I love the idea of influencing the next generation and I desire to be the person that helps many complete their athletic goals. I hope to be the inspirational mentor that few have been to me.
