Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Kyle Lejman. I am currently a Senior at James B. Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. I am currently a three-year (4 years after graduation in 2019) three sport athlete playing Golf, Swimming, and Water Polo. I am focused on playing golf in college. I have been playing golf since the age of 8. From the first time I picked up a club, I had the dream of playing golf at the collegiate level and maybe even pursuing a career in golf after college. Before high school I participated in the Junior PGA program at Schaumburg Golf Club in Schaumburg, Illinois. I played in the Junior PGA program every summer from 2009-2013 until I became too old to participate. I then went on to receive full bag lessons with the teaching professional at Schaumburg Golf Club. I also participated in the 16u team for Junior PGA from the summer of 2014 to the summer of 2017. In 2017, our team took second place overall in the Northwest Chicago Division. I have since been playing high school golf. I have been on the Varsity team and have earned playing in the top 5 spots since my sophomore year. In the past years I have recently struggled with my putting and short game. During this past winter and early spring I have received lessons in those fields and have noticed a drastic change in my game this season, as I am now consistently shooting low 80s and high 70s. My goal for college is to come out with a degree in Marketing or Sales and to come out of college with little to no debt. Also I hope to come out of school with a job that supports me well. All while being a three sport athlete in high school, I was able to achieve a B average and I will continue to focus on keeping up with my education while playing golf because I know it is very important to my future. I feel that being a three sport athlete sets me apart from other athletes because it shows my commitment to practices, the sport itself, working hard, and my academics all in one. When it comes to golf, below are my strengths and weaknesses:
I have many strengths when it comes to golf and they are listed below:
Consistently hitting over 280 yards off the tee
Being able to be creative with my shots on the golf course
Short game around the green
Hitting fairways and greens in regulation
Both reading and understanding putts
Weaknesses:
Letting bad play get into my head and making me frustrated
Tough time shaking off bad holes
Why I'm A Good Candidate for Your Team:
Throughout the years I have learned that two of the most important things in being an athlete are hard work and dedication. This past spring I was a captain for the Conant Boys Water Polo team and led the team to achieving 4th place in the state of Illinois. There is nothing quite like waking up at 5:00AM to swim laps for hours before starting a full school day. However, I loved every second of it because I knew I was improving myself in the water and also in my golf game. The strength I have gained from swimming endless amounts of laps each morning for months during the golf offseason has led me to excel past most golfers my age. For example, my distance off of the tee has improved in the last three years from 240 yards to 290 yards due to the upper body strength I have gained from swimming and water polo. This goes to show that hard work and dedication can and will increase my scores and the way I play on the golf course.
