My name is Sami BenYoussef, I am a 15 year old sophomore in High School. I am a 4 year member of the Tunisian Junior National Team. My brother and I were the youngest players ever selected to play for the junior national team. Golf has given me a lot of amazing opportunities, like representing my country in the Pan Arab Junior Golf Championships - twice. This past year's Pan-Arabs was incredible, not just because of representing my country or playing against the best players in our region, but because it also taught me something about myself. At the start of last summer it was clear I was not one of the best under 15 players in the country, but I really wanted one of the three spots on the under 15 team. I looked at my calendar and realized there were 57 days before the selection camp. I set a goal for myself; if I practiced and worked on my game for 57 days straight, maybe I would have a chance. I went to camp strong, won a place on the team, and our team won the Pan Arab under 15 boys championship. I know that golf is an individual sport, but I love the camaraderie of traveling and cheering for your teammates. Now I am hoping that golf will give me another great opportunity - to play and study in the US.
I attend the American Cooperative School of Tunis (ACST). ACST is an IB program school, I will begin the IB next year, my junior year. We are a competency based learning school, so I do not get letter or number grades, but if I were to translate my grades, my average would be a B+. I am trilingual. I speak, read and write fluently in English, French and Arabic. I attended French school until 8th grade. I am also the Captain of my high school varsity basektball team and a member of the varsity volleyball team.
