Cooper Craiger Go...I came into the sport of golf relatively recently. I did not begin to play tournaments until I was 13 years old. Playing in that first tournament was a turning point for me, I realized that golf is my passion and it is the sport I wish to pursue into my collegiate years.
Knowing that I wanted to play golf at a higher level, I began working with a swing coach at my country club and made practicing my game a priority. By doing this I was able to qualify as a freshman for the Varsity team and have continued to play at the Varsity level. A highlight came when as a freshman our High School Varsity Golf team qualified for state and due to my hard work and dedication my scores counted towards our team score. This is one of the reasons I was named as a Co-Captain for the 2017 golf season. I continue to post scores during duals and conference tournaments where I am either the number 1 or number 2 golfer for our team. Another highlight came during the 2017 season when I shot a 3 under 69 during our home opener golf tournament and secured first place. At the end of the 2017 season I tied for second place at the Conference tournament. I believe these achievements are due to my high golf IQ, determination, work ethic, and leadership qualities.
In the classroom, I study hard and use my exceptional time management skills to maintain a high GPA. Currently I have a 4.04 GPA with a class ranking of 48/448 students. I volunteer and have earned Silver Cord Honors as well as being named to the National Honor Society. I am a member of several clubs at schools and participate in a youth leadership class. I was recognized by my principal and was sent to represent Roosevelt High School at the Youth Leadership and Diversity Summit this past fall. I take pride in my school and know that I will show the same leadership skills and strong character at the next level of my academic and athletic career.
I want to attend a college that will challenge me in the classroom as well as on the golf course. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right collegiate match and at the highest level of competition possible. I know that I have the ability and determination to play at the collegiate level. With my leadership skills, determination and character I will make a positive impact on campus, not only athletically but academically as well.
