Personal Statement

At a very young age I had fallen in love with the game of golf. I had won a state title at the age of 5 and qualified to play in tournaments all over the U.S. This included Pepsi Little People's tournament, US Kids World Championship (had a hole in one there), Doral and Callaway World Juniors. However, I stopped playing golf at the age of 8 to pursue other athletic goals.

At the end of freshman year (age 15) in high school I felt that drive and passion for the game of golf again and successfully made the Varsity golf team my sophomore year even though I had not even swung a club in 7 years and only had 2 weeks before tryouts. I was certainly not at my best form for that year and I kept pushing myself each and every day trying to get better and better. The transition from sophomore year to junior year was one of the biggest changes in my golf career thus far as I had dropped my handicap from at 12 to 3.1 as well as my scoring average from 45 to 37 at my home course. This was a result mainly due to my hard work and a private swing coach which has helped my game immensely.  I am still working extremely hard each and every day working on my game trying to get better and I see my swing coach once a week for all 52 weeks (including the winter time).  My hardwork and dedication has paid off immensely as I have won my first two tournaments of the year and hopefully many more to come.

I am now the #1 seed and captain for my high school team and hopefully soon committing to a collegiate team. I think what sets me apart from most golfers is that I took 8 years off of golf and within 1 1/2 years back into the sport and with a swing coach I am now at 3.1 handicap. Obviously I am a coachable kid and with the right training and the right coach my handicap should go down even further. A 3.1 handicap while living in Boston where you can't play year round is impressive and I strive to play under par. Keep watching me as I practice and practice and continue to improve my game. Remember, I really have been only playing for less than 2 years.

I recently had an article on me in the Lowell Sun. Check it out here: http://www.lowellsun.com/sports/ci_30426172/westfords-dilorenzo-not-showing-much-rust-after-layoff

  • Awarded Student / Athlete of the month for September. I was nominated by golf coach and selected by faculty and dean. Award is for one female and one male athlete out of 1700 students at Westford Academy. Coach Delong wrote " Golf Team Captain, senior Hunter DiLorenzo, has had a very successful fall season thus far. He averaged approximately 14 points per match which puts him among the top scorers in the DCL. One match in particular that stands out is a home match versus league rival Lincoln-Sudbury on September 14th. He shot an incredible 5-under par round of 30 which was good for an amazing 28 points. It is the highest known to me for WA. That great round allowed us to squeeze out a tight 117-113 victory over a very strong team. As captain, he has shown great leadership. When he gets on the course, he puts on the game face and his focus and shot making are always a target"
