Golf became important to me at a young age, largely due to my grandfather. We spent many hours watching/playing golf together and that family connection continues with my dad. Golf is a sport that not only relies heavily on the basic fundamentals, which I revisit yearly while teaching golf lessons to young golfers each summer at Michigan Technological University’s golf course, but also on your inner character. Golf has taught me to dig deep within myself and rely on my confidence to conquer whatever life throws at me. Much of this mental strength comes from watching my dad endure two major bouts of Cancer, including a bone marrow transplant. His positive attitude and both physical and mental endurance showed me what inner strength and faith can do.
My leadership qualities began when I was playing team sports. It came naturally to me to assist teammates to achieve their highest goals and through tough challenges in a positive way. The counselor and teachers recognized my natural leadership qualities and helped me to hone them through a scholarship to Wisconsin Leadership Seminar where one sophomore is chosen from each high school in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan to attend a three day conference to further leadership qualities.
My desire is to complete an excellent education while competing in a competitive golf program where I can continue to improve my golf game and extend my leadership qualities to benefit the team. I know that my work-ethic, strong character and leadership abilities can positively impact your golf team and university!
