My name is David Schneider Jerez, my father is American, but I was born and raised in Spain on the Costa del Sol also known as the “Costa del Golf”. Following in the footsteps of my mother, I adventured to the U.S. to go to school this year, despite the pandemic. I am 17 years old and currently a Junior on a Scholarship to Baylor School, Chattanooga Tennessee where I play for the Varsity Golf Team. Since I started to compete at age 10, I have always wanted to be part of a golf team and play for a spirited school. I finally got to do that this year and I was crucial in helping the Baylor Golf Team win the State Championship. Along the way I was also the Regional Championship Medalist with a score of 69.
In Spain I am federated by the Miguel Angel Jiménez Golf Academy where I practice and was fortunate to have the unique opportunity to be trained by Miguel’s elder brother Juan Jiménez. When I left Spain last year, I am proud to have finished Nº1 of the Regional Ranking for Andalucia, to be recognized by the Junta de Andalucia as an Elite Athlete, and to be selected for the team that represented Andalucia in the National U-18 “Campeonato de España de Federaciones”. This is a Ryder Cup format with teams representing all the different regions of Spain and we finished runners up in an extremely close final.
I am a very dedicated student and this year at Baylor is the first time that I am studying in the English language, so I am proud to be learning quickly and taking AP Physics. I really enjoy the experience of Boarding School and I am excited about finding a university with a strong academic program where I can be part of a highly competitive golf team.
