I am a high school junior who loves golf and is excited about the opportunity to play at the collegiate level. I am confident that I have the right combination of skill, perseverance, and coachability that will make me a highly successful student-athlete.
My dad is an avid golfer who got me into the sport when I was 11 years old. I immediately realized that it was the sport for me. I love basketball and swimming, but there is something about the golf course that has always made it my favorite place to play. When they saw how much I loved it, my parents supported my interest by allowing me to go to golf camps, compete in tournaments, and take private lessons. Today, I continue to practice with my coach, Bryan Gathright, I am on the varsity golf team for my high school, and I play an average of 30 tournaments each year. I have developed my game through consistency. I work hard on the fundamentals, paying attention to the little things that lead to improved play.
While many people think of golf as an individual sport, I know that success comes from playing with and learning from others. Through my participation in golf camps and tournament play, I've been lucky to work with many different coaches and players. It many sound strange, but I don't mind criticism. In fact, I learn from it. I know that I am a better player because I am willing to listen to anyone who has experience and insights to share. I am also happy to share my knowledge and skill with teammates and younger players. Teaching other players is a great way to improve my own game.
I am blessed to have a strong support system at home that fuels my success in the classroom as well as the golf course. Golf has even made me a better student. I maintain an A average and look forward to pursuing a degree in kinesiology.
Overall, I have a proven track record of success that demonstrates my willingness to learn, my positive attitude, and a commitment to winning in the sport I love. I look forward to taking my game to the next level and winning for a great school.
