I lost the use of my right arm when I caught a cold at age six. I have learned that a person's world can change, for better or for worse, in the blink of an eye. This has taught me to appreciate the gifts and talents God designed me with, but not hold onto them too tightly. As an athlete with a physical disability, I am grateful for everything I can do and try not to take anything for granted, constantly striving to improve. I never allow excuses to be the reason I "can't" do something and I'm coachable.
I believe I am a good candidate for any collegiate golf team because whether I am the best or the worst on the team, I will always give my all, working as hard as I can. Despite golf being an individual sport, I work hard to form relationships with my teammates by offering support and encouragement whenever I can. I am a leader because I strive to set a good example for my team and my classmates, whether it be in practice or in conduct. I am a leader in the student ministry for my church and I have even gotten the opportunity to teach. I have come to recognize that my attitude and behavior not only represent my family, but also my school, organizations, church, and team. I am responsible because I am willing to do the hard things that no one else is willing to do, and I never give up.
In addition to competing on my high school team and in local tournaments, I also compete with the North American One Armed Golfer Association (NAOAGA) against adults - and some of them are professional golfers. Competing in events like these has helped me develop more maturity in my mental game. I've experienced what it's like to travel for tournaments, which has taught me how to manage my training, fuel, and rest. It has been very rewarding to build relationships with others who share my never-quit attitude and support each other even during fierce competition.
