My name is Drew Renaud, I am 18 years old, 5’ 11”, and 175 pounds. I was born in Fairbanks, AK and raised two hours southeast in the rural community of Delta Junction. I played hockey for the first time at age six. I grew up playing on outdoor rinks in remote towns across the state where temperatures consistently reached 20 below zero. Traveling long distances to play hockey has been a regular part of my life. I am truly grateful to have parents who drove me all over the state of Alaska, stood in snowbanks, and slept on school gym floors, so I could play the game I love.
By age ten I had experienced three State Championships and learned that hard work has many rewards. Desiring to become the best goalie I could be, I transitioned to defense on my father’s advice to develop my skating skills and learn other aspects of the game. My father's advice was priceless. At age sixteen, I returned to the net as a starting 18U Midget goalie on a Tier III team. My confidence, puck awareness, ability to read shooters and stop pucks improved three fold. It was a great time for me. I was back where I was born to be, blocking pucks and competing in every minute of every game.
My greatest hockey accomplishment occurred in 2015 during my senior year of high school. Our team won the conference and I was named the Delta High School Varsity MVP and the 2015 Alaska Greatland Conference Goalie of the Year. I was truly humbled to receive both awards. I credit my teammates and coaches for my success. I am truly thankful for their support and the camaraderie we shared. The relationships I have made and the life lessons I continue to learn playing hockey are irreplaceable.
Since I began playing hockey, it has been my goal to play on a junior team where I can grow and develop the skills to play in the NCAA. Despite being faced with the barrier of growing up in remote Alaska where there were no Tier I and Tier II teams, I have refused to give up on reaching my goal, because I know I have what it takes to make it. To reach my goal I train for hockey year round. I never turn down an opportunity to get into the net. I supplement my ice time by playing in the Delta Men's League in between playing on the Delta 18U Tier III team.
Reaching my goal is my main focus and top priority. In the next six months, I will attend two clinics and one combine. I have a proven work ethic as demonstrated by my recent completion of 10 weeks of US Army Basic Combat Training and 16 weeks of US Army Advanced Individual Training. I seek opportunities that will challenge me mentally and physically. I face every challenge with the knowledge that doing so will make me a stronger, faster, more resilient goal tender.
I am a student of the game, eager to learn, eager to be the best! I am self-disciplined and prepared to compete in hockey at the junior level. I thrive in high stress hockey situations, where what I do has meaning. I am able to work alone, but I flourish in team environments.
Mission Statement: I am committed and I will succeed at becoming a top goal tender in Junior Hockey.
Strengths: Commitment, Discipline, Desire to win, Leader on and off the ice, mentally and physically strong.
