What defines me as a hockey player is commitment to full effort, mental toughness, and smart teamwork. It not just how I play, it’s who I am.
As assistant captain, I hold myself to a high standard. I don’t just listen to coaches’ feedback; I seek feedback. I don’t just use my speed to score, I fight to be first to the puck on every play, offensive or defensive. Most importantly, the scoreboard never changes the quality of my effort.
I’ve learned that mental skills determine the difference between great and exceptional athletes. My mental skills keep me teachable, coachable, and hard-working so I consistently stay in my best performance zone to do what’s best for the team. Mental toughness enables me to think clearly and quickly to put into action what we’ve practiced, even in stressful situations.
Off the ice, I also give full effort. I’m a straight-A student and I push myself to take honors and AP classes. I’m respectful, reliable, resourceful, and resilient. I don’t take opportunities for granted and I started a program to donate hockey gear to low income schools in my county.
I’m willing to work hard to earn success. Thank you for the opportunity to be considered for your program. I look forward to making a big contribution to your team.
Sincerely,
Zave Greene
