Personal Statement

I am currently in 8th grade and I attend Spring Lake Park School in Minnesota.

Ever since I can remember I have always set high standards for myself, been self-driven, and a natural born leader. I value hard work, determination, perseverance, and true grit both on and off the ice.  Hockey runs deep in my genetics and ever since I was on skates, my heart has been between the pipes, being a goalie.  Being a goalie is challenging, but my desire, drive and passion are what set me apart and keep pushing me forward to be the best I can be and to reach my goal to become a collegiate athlete.

Furthermore, aside from my hard work between the pipes, I equally value my academics and set the standard for myself to be the best student I can be in the classroom. I prioritize my classwork to maintain the highest GPA I can achieve. From my experience in hockey and working as a team, I am able show positive leadership and be a role model in the classroom.

My grandpa is by biggest role model and I will always look up to him. He was a hockey player, a coach, and, above all, the true meaning of SISU. As a stubborn, old Finlander, he made sure I never will forget was SISU means and to never forget that we can achieve anything if we work hard enough for it. "Sisu - extraordinary determination, courage and resoluteness in the face of extreme adversity. An action mindset which enables individuals to see beyond their present limitations, taking action against the odds and reaching beyond observed capacities."
