My name is Ryan Tremel, and I live in a small rural town outside of Pittsburgh, pa. Like most young men, I enjoy the outdoors, hunting, fishing and riding ATV's. My passion has always been Ice Hockey, which I have been playing since the age of 5.
I am a highly motivated, goal orientated athlete that strives to be the best I can be. I train 3 days a week with a professional trainer along with other NCAA athletes during the off season, and continue to train to improve my stamina, strength and agility. I believe my work is never done and I always have room for improvement. With that, I am very receptive to feedback, especially if it helps me improve as an athlete and an individual.
For the 2019-20 season, I started off playing for two teams. I am a Junior in High School and started the 2019 sesaon as a starting defenseman for Trinity Hockey Class B Co-op team. As a Co-op team the skills varied between the teams and I felt that to best meet my long term goals of playing NCAA hockey, that my focus needed to be on improving being a higher level athlete as well as focusing on academics, working closer with my strength & conditioning coach on and off the ice, that I ended my Varsity season after 6 games.
I also was selected to play for the USPHL Teir III Pittsburgh Vengeance Premier team. However, as the season started the age of the players varied drastically and as a 2002 player, my opportunities for game time exposure was very limited. Therefore, after the 20 game mark, I worked with my private coach and agreed that to best showcase and increase my exposure that I took advantage of the option to join the U18 AA/AAA National Bound PHA Iceman team for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season and severed ties with the Vengeance. I am also a level 3 ice hockey official and recently applied for my level 4 after attending an elite officiating camp where I received numerous accolades for my skill.
As an Ice Hockey Defensemen, I’m a strong player that reads plays exceptionally well and uses the opponents playing style to my ability to drive opportunities. In the defensive zone, I’m not afraid of blocking strong shots and will fight to regain positive turnover. In the offensive zone, I’m a strong playmaker, working hard to give my forwards the time and space needed to be effective. I’m very vocal in positive communication with my teammates and my coach. Overall, my integrity is to play as a team, with teammates that have the same goal to win, and even when down, I never give up. My passion and integrity has earned me a letter in previous teams.
I take my education very seriously, knowing that my education is even more important then my sport of choice. I take advance core classes in high school and I make it my priority to always complete homework and study for upcoming tests before I begin any extra circular activity.
I try to stay well rounded by participating in other clubs and activities such as 4H, FFA, and Volunteering within my community. I have held several officer and leadership roles in each of these clubs.
My ultimate goal would be to play at the NCAA level while taking Management and/or leadership courses and serving our country after my collegial career.
