I am in my seventh year of playing lacrosse as well playing goalie. It started as an outlet of energy and turned into a passion. My mentors and coaches in lacrosse have been a multi-time All American goalie (Kevin Barry – Hofstra), starting goalie for D2 Lynn University (Collin McClelland), and Chris Gallo (D2 goalie and local goalie coach). From these great men I have learned four key things about my role as a goalie; I am the last line of defense, the first action on offense and thus my care and management of the lacrosse ball is paramount. Communicating with my defense is key and if I do my job properly, we can stop the ball at least 70% of the time. Taking my time and weighing my options properly will allow me to successfully clear the ball almost every time. Tracking the ball properly to assure I am in the right place at the right time can make all the difference in the world, setting me up for success.
I am the type of person that, if you teach me something and explain the why, I will absorb that information and repeat the expectations time and again. I am self-aware and self-analyze my performance regularly learning from my mistakes and work hard to correct any issue going forward. I look forward to playing lacrosse in college because it will allow me to continue a sport that I love and become part of a brotherhood that will last a lifetime.
