I never thought I would be a goalie. At a winter indoor league championship in 6th grade, our goalie was unable to play. My father turned to me (a midfielder) to step in the cage and we brought home the championship. During the drive home, my happiness was interrupted by my father telling me he thought he found a new goalie for the spring season. He just didn’t say it was me yet.
I find myself fortunate. I have been fortunate to have a former Notre Dame Lacrosse player as my father that was able coach me at every level of lacrosse in youth and high school. Some players may not have been able to handle the pressure or extra attention that entails. Because of the extra scrutiny of being a coaches’ son, I challenged myself at every age level to rise to the occasion. That was often hours of fundamental work in the backyard or on the brick wall at school.
My hard work is paying off. I was the only freshman to make the varsity team for my high school. As a sophomore, I split time with the senior incumbent goalie (Div II commit) which culminated in a state championship. During this championship campaign, I learned the value of teamwork, good sportsmanship and always being ready to play.
I am leaning toward a degree in Finance at a school that will challenge me academically and athletically. I have a commitment to excellence that is evident in my achievements. I know I will make a fantastic college student athlete.
