Hello coaches! I’m Chandler Potts, and am a Junior (2021) at Wichita East High School in Wichita, KS. I moved to Wichita in 2017, my freshman year of high school and started playing lacrosse that Spring on a club team, Wichita Renegades, due to lacrosse not being played here in our high schools. I love the game and over the past two seasons have worked hard to improve from where I started, which was the absolute beginning. In my first games of my first season my coach put me in for a couple minutes a game and said, “We know you don’t know what you’re doing yet, just get the ball.” From there, I kept practicing, hitting the wall, and shooting so I could get better. The harder I worked, the more I loved it. Lacrosse isn’t big here in Wichita, but I play in all the indoor winter and the summer men’s leagues where we play “sticks in.” This summer, I connected with the Ten21 lacrosse program out of Jenks, OK and have spent time in their facility practicing with the travel team and taking lessons from Coach LaBelle. In June 2019, I played in my first tournament with Ten21 Lacrosse at the BBQ Town Lacrosse Bash. I've played a few other tournaments with Ten21 Lacrosse, including the Tropical Thaw national tournament in Orlando, FL this winter break.
I’ve moved around a lot because I’m a military kid. My dad has served in the Air Force for 21 years. I've learned from my family the importance of keeping my core values, knowing myself and what I stand for no matter what the circumstances or where I live. I've learned not to be afraid in new situations. I know that hard work and perseverance is universal and what I lack in experience on the field right now I can make up for in work ethic, being teachable and seeking all opportunities to improve. Lacrosse-wise, I am able to use both hands shooting and passing, am pretty fast and have good ball control and dodging skills. I am always willing to put in the work to get better, and have a goal to play in college because I really love the game.
My strength of character comes from my family and my faith. I am working on my Eagle Scout rank right now and through this work, I’m serving the foster care organizations in Wichita by organizing and creating a system for a donation room for donations to be made to our church, organized by volunteers so that new foster families can come in and easily obtain what they need to get started with foster children. Character, to me, means being honest, and believing in others. I’m a good teammate and encourage others on and off the field. I define myself as dedicated, friendly and outgoing. Our family motto is, "work hard, be nice." Lacrosse is my favorite sport, and I also ran cross country for the first time last Fall (2018) and placed 10th in the Greater Wichita Athletic League (GWAL) competition. I consistently ran sub-20 and am working to increase my speed to run sub-19 to compete at a higher level. I have a goal in cross country to make State and run at Rim Rock in the State meet. I was awarded the Newcomer Award by my cross country coaches, which means they felt I contributed significantly to our team. I have found that running cross country helps me with my conditioning and stamina for lacrosse. Academically, I have a good GPA but am working to improve it. I take honors classes and am going to be taking 2 AP classes my junior year.
I would love the opportunity to continue to play lacrosse in college. I’ve come so far so fast and hope to continue to grow in college both as a lacrosse player, teammate and man. Thank you for reviewing my profile.
