Personal Statement
Like my Dad I have been involved in sports for the better part of my youth. I was born in San Francisco October 15, 1995. My Dad named me after Ty Cobb his lifelong hero. I am the oldest of 4, I have three sisters.
At the Age of 2 I began playing baseball in the "bambino" league in Northern California.
My family moved to Northeast Ohio when I was 5, that same year I began playing ice hockey, following my Dad's footsteps, I played center. I also played competitive baseball, soccer and golf. Some early highlights include: being named several times to the Greater Cleveland All Star Team for ice hockey. I was the leading scorer on each of my teams one year scoring 35 goals. I played soccer on the Cleveland Blues Travel Team, our Team won the Ohio State U9 Championships, and several league championships. When I was 6 I won my first Pee Wee golf championship at our Country Club, Shaker Heights Country Club. The following year I won this event again. My Dad and I won the Father - Son Golf Tournament that same year.
As I moved from 1st Grade through 3rd Grade I continued to play ice hockey, baseball, golf and soccer. Starting in the 4th grade I added football through my school district, Chagrin Falls Elementary School. I was a starting linebacker and fullback my first two years of league play, I later was moved to middle linebacker where I remain today. Over the past 4 years of football our team has had great success going 23 - 5, I have always been a starter.
As a fourth grader I started playing lacrosse for Chagrin Falls. I began playing as a middie where I remained until this summer. While at the UNC Tar heel summer LAX camp I was moved to attack. I really prefer this position because I feel I have good ball handling skills as well as good shooting skills, mainly due to the fact I played so many years of ice hockey and baseball.
A few years ago my Dad and I began dropping sports in order to focus on my strengths. The first to go was soccer, than ice hockey. This summer after playing several years of travel baseball we decided to drop baseball in order to focus on lacrosse and football.
I spend a great deal of time working out, I enjoy the weight room and I have seen great gains from my supervised workouts, three days per week. I also attended Chagrin Falls summer football program at Chagrin Falls High School where I was planning on attending this fall.
I had the great fortune of trying out and making the Burning River LAX program headed by two great Coaches. As a 14 year old I made the U 15 travel program, this is the finest LAX program in Northern Ohio. Both Coaches are also the Head Coaches for The University School, 2010 State LAX Champions; they made arrangements for me to be recruited to The University School, a premier private high school.
I was recruited to play both football and lacrosse. I am in the process of going through the enrollment process now for my freshman year this fall.
Though I play both football and lacrosse my first love is lacrosse. This summer I focused on advanced training and playing for Burning River. In mid July we lost in the championship game to the best team in Maryland, but we qualified having come in 2nd for the U 15 National Championships in Florida in January 2011.
I attended the University of North Carolina LAX camp in late July, were I helped lead my team to the Championship game.
Though I am only 14 I understand the value of hard work and training. There are days when I will play 2 or 3 lacrosse games and still desire to play more. My goal is to attend a quality college with a very competitive lacrosse program. I have my #1 school in mind but I would never rule out any opportunity. I have been taught the quality of education will always be first when it comes to my final decision.
I am looking forward to the next four years and the experiences I will have as I go through this process. I know my hard work both in the classroom and on the field will pay off when the right program and I finally come together in 4 years.
