My name is John Darrup, and I’m a junior at Mifflinburg Area High School, where I have a 4.0 GPA. I play lacrosse, which is my favorite sport because of its speed and intensity. Being on the lacrosse team gives me something bigger than myself to be a part of and work for. I love the chance to build strong relationships with my teammates and to compete alongside them.
Lacrosse has been important to me since the first time I started playing. When I first learned what the sport was and how to play, I knew it would be a main part of who I am. The first time I held a stick was on a spring day in fourth grade in my friend’s backyard. He played before, and I had no idea what to do or how to hold this weird netted stick, but he taught me what to do and how to cradle, scoop ground balls, pass, and catch. Even though I knew nothing about lacrosse before that day, it was a lot of fun and I instantly loved the sport.
Outside of lacrosse, my family and God are very important. I live with my mom and dad, three sisters, and a brother. My brother and one of my younger sisters also play lacrosse, and we help each other become better players by teaching and criticizing each other. I am active in my church by altar serving, being in youth group, and running a station at the annual Vacation Bible School.
I would love to play lacrosse in college because it is my favorite activity and playing in college has always been a huge goal of mine. This sport has grown to be a major part of who I am, and I want to continue playing it for as long as I possibly can. I’m looking for a good college where I can get an education to prepare myself for the future, form connections with my teammates, and have solid playing time to continue being a part of the wonderful lacrosse community.
