Hi, my name is Sean Paul Morris and I am currently finishing up my junior year of high school. I go to May River High School which is a fairly new school that has only been open for three years now. My drive and passion to succeed in my academics have been very strong and I work hard in everything I do so I can be the best student athlete that I can be. My dream is to play collegiate lacrosse due to my love for the sport. I have been playing lacrosse for 6 years now, my first three years I played as a D-pole, and then my last three years I have played goalie which I love. I also play football and this season I will be the starting varsity center for my high school team who went 12-1 last season and made a very good run in the playoffs. I have played football for 11 years.
I am the varsity goalie for the lacrosse team at May River and I have been since I was a freshman, which was also my first season playing as goalie. I have also been a captain on the lacrosse team for the past two years. My freshman year I was awarded the Most Improved Player on my team as I went from never picking up a goalie stick to ending in the top ten save percentages in the state. This season, my junior year, I was awarded Defensive Most Valuable Player and I was also awarded All-lower State Second Team Goalie. This season was a tough year for my team as we experienced many challenges, including loss of players, players getting injured and having inexperienced players in key positions. Even with all this I made sure to be a role model to my teammates and stand my ground and do my job and help lead my team. I had a 54% save percentage this season with approximately 200 total saves.
During the off season of lacrosse, I play high school football, practice, conditioning and regular season lasts for about 7 months straight and even during this I take every opportunity work on my lacrosse to make sure I keep my skills warmed up year-round. My first 2 seasons in high school I attended the Clemson Lacrosse camp hosted by Nike, but this summer I having joined the True Lacrosse South Carolina summer team and we will be attending 3 tournaments: Atlanta, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
Over the past three years of high school as a football player it is required for me to take weight lifting every semester and as a result I have gotten a lot stronger and I have lost some weight but gained it back in muscle. I plan to continue these routines and keep weightlifting and pushing my body to get stronger and faster.
What I think sets me apart from other goalies is that I have a very strong passion for lacrosse. In my free time I watch lacrosse highlights from not only my games but also collegiate and professional games, to continue to improve and learn techniques and skills. I love to learn about the sport, I think that’s another thing that sets me apart. I like to learn and know every position of the sport because the better I know what other players are going to do, the better chance I have at stopping a shot on goal. I also like to encourage my teammates to get better by even just doing the little things like playing wall ball to improve you stick skills and stick control. In addition, I try to push my teammates in the weight room and with academics. I enjoy taking a leadership role even though I tend to be a somewhat reserved and quiet individual off the field, but I find my voice when I am on the field.
