My name is Iyah Lavit. I'm 16 years old and I have been playing lacrosse for 8 years. This game pushes me to be the best leader I can be both on and off the field. I am the 3rd born of 4 siblings and the first one that has taken sports seriously and wants to go to college. The most important thing to me is family. I think family always comes first no matter what and I would like to find a school where I make a family bond. When I was 10 my dad and I were sitting by a fire and we were talking about me playing another sport because at the time I was only playing basketball and I wanted to play another sport maybe with a little more contact. After talking some more we decided to sign me up for lacrosse in the spring. After I played my first season of lacrosse I fell in love with the game, I wanted to play every position and I did. Each position played taught me a different lesson. Playing goalie taught me how to use my voice and use self-discipline, attack taught me how to see the field on offense, and defense, defense taught me to be patient. But the one thing that I've learned about myself through this sport is that I'm a natural leader off and on the field. One of the biggest obstacles I have faced is my dad's passing when I was 11 years old. I wasn't sure if I was gonna play lacrosse because of my grief that season but I knew he would not want me to stop playing the game I love so much. In all honesty I am not sure at this point what subjects i want to pursue in college. I'm hoping that the college I end up will help me discover and nurture new academic interests.
