I was introduced to lacrosse when I was about 11. Initially I played midfield, then LSM and close D and my passion for the game grew over the years. I am a three sport athlete playing soccer in the fall, swim in the winter and lacrosse in the spring. All of these sports have provided lessons that make me the player I am today but my main focus has grown into a love for lacrosse and my desire to continue to play as I enter college.
In soccer I mainly play as a center back or right back and I enjoy the physicality of the position and being able to see the whole field and help to shape the direction of play with my teammates. Our team is very focused on quick transitions to offense so I also get to push the ball up and help create scoring opportunities.
Swimming teaches me a lot of great lessons that transition into my life and other sports. This past year I earned the vote of my teammates to be a captain as a junior which was an honor. Swimming can be described as a grind with hours of practice for very short periods of competition. This unique sport has taught me the value of practice and hard work, making the most of an opportunity, how small form changes can equal gains in competition. Our swim team has also been fun as a very team focused atmosphere where we support each other more than in any other sport I have played.
Those two sports come together in some ways for me in lacrosse. I transitioned from LSM to SSDM during my sophomore season at the request of my coach and have come to love the challenge. I applied the hard work lessons from swim towards my growth in lacrosse and became a key member of our defensive unit as an SSDM and in all man-down situations. My skills of seeing the field and studying the players developed in soccer allows me to help direct my teammates and set myself up to be in a good position when I am often the first person the offensive unit attacks. My enjoyment of the physical nature of the sport helps me with those attacks and my focus on turning defense to offense from soccer has translated now into lacrosse where I love to push the ball forwards and help my team with an assist or score created in transition. This past season our team earned a state championship and I was honored to be selected as an all-state player thanks to the support and training I have received over the years combined with a lot of hard work.
I am looking for a program where I can continue to grow my skills. I am interested in playing with a group of players who want to continue to grow and support each other in that mission to be the best. My ideal team environment is one of positive reinforcement and constant open communications from the coaching staff that lead to increasing my abilities as a player and team player. I believe that in that kind of team everyone will grow and be successful as I have seen my high school team achieve this past year.
