I am James Clark from Glastonbury High School, and I row for my school's crew team. I am currently a junior and I am in my third year of rowing. I started by doing rowing camps at the Hartford Riverfront during eighth grade and I've enjoyed the sport ever since then.
The following year, I started as a novice on the GHS Crew Team and had a successful first year. During that year I learned the basics of rowing and grew as a rower to the point where I had been called to row with the varsity team for practices. During the following summer I had the opportunity to row at the Craftsbury sculling camp. In my sophomore year, I was one of few sophomores to receive a varsity letter that fall. Over the winter, I showed my commitment by attending as many optional conditioning practices as I could. This helped me lower my erg times and prepare for our championship season in the spring. Throughout that season I rowed on my team's 1V, even winning our home race (the Mahoney Cup) and the CSPRA State Championship for the first time in four years. To end the season, I received the award for most improved on my team.
In the fall season of 2019 I had the honor of winning my team's Hartwell Award. This award is given to an athlete who showed devotion to the team, leadership, and sportsmanship every season.
Some qualities that I believe that I have which are valuable for rowing are my work ethic and my persistence. These have helped me rise to row on my team's 1V after only a year and a half of experience, and win many important races. Additionally, I have good academics, as shown by me completing last year with a 4.4 GPA and scoring a 1420 on my PSATs.
Thank you for taking the time to consider recruiting me.
