I found rowing during Covid. Rowing gave me a community and routine when I needed it most. Rowing demands you push your limits, with that one motion repeated just for the chance to perfect it. As in everything I do I strived for my personal best, to be: “My own self at my very best all the time.” I have never been big into competitive sports, but I quickly fell in love with rowing. The water is part of my identity: I spend summers on the lake in Michigan: sailing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming, etc. While new to organized sports, I came to rowing with stamina and endurance from years of extreme outdoor adventures – I have biked, hiked, and paddled over 1000 miles.
I joined rowing less than a year ago and I have competed in only 2 regattas (the 3rd was called for weather), but my 8+ Novice took 2nd at Midwest Regionals 2021. On top of daily rowing practice I work out in the gym and erg everyday, and I have been working with a nutritionist striving for optimal performance. I have room to improve and I am making the effort: I have never worked harder to be better, stronger, and faster. Rowing is something I want to have in my life forever.
