I've been a swimmer for the past 12 years, but last summer, I decided to start rowing. I attended a camp with the Detroit Boat Club where I learned the basics about the sport. In the fall, I decided to join the Junior Men's Team while continuing swimming. My schedule consisted of swimming four days a week and rowing the other 3 days of the week. Despite not knowing what to expect from rowing, I had a lot of fun being on the water and doing something new that wasn't staring at the bottom of a pool.
After a few Head Races in the fall and my swim season, I decided to start taking rowing more seriously, and I started going to rowing every day. After my first spring regatta at the Dogwood Juniors Regatta, at the Midwest Junior Championships, I qualified for Nationals in the Men's Pair and the Men’s Quad. I'm proud of what I've learned in a short time, and I hope to keep improving as I move forward in the sport.
Speaking for my character and work ethic, I spend up to 4 hours a day driving to and from practices. I believe in consistency and persistence, allowing me to improve daily in different aspects of my life including but not limited to school, Boy Scouts, and Rowing. I take the hardest classes I can at school, I improve my leadership skills by attending scouting trips, and I fuel my competitive spirit through rowing.
For my future, as I can attribute to several events in my life, I want to be a scientist or doctor and explore the fields of Neuroscience and Surgery. I've had several loved ones suffer and pass away because of a lack of knowledge in these fields, and I want to mitigate the pain that may come to other patients and families in the future.
I'm passionate about rowing and cherish the journey it entails toward earning recognition, and I'm hopeful to find a school where I can continue to nurture these passions.
