Devin Swech '16 Recruiting Profile

Thank you for taking the opportunity to learn more about me and what I can bring to your program.

For the past year, I have been rowing for the Owen J Roberts’s Crew Club in Pennsylvania. I can sweep both port and starboard but prefer starboard. Beginning in April 2015, I began racing as part of a quad and I have raced in a double. I have loved rowing ever since I have started and strive to make myself better every day, between water and dry land training at practice and erg/crossfit training on my own. Rowing in college is a once in a life- time opportunity for me and would further advance my career in rowing and change my life. 

I am a team leader and try to lead by example while also encouraging my teammates to strive for the same achievements and success that I have achieved and want to achieve in the future. I am also a very driven, coachable rower, always open to constructive criticism and extra instruction. I strive to be a hard working rower and athlete constantly working on and off the water to achieve and surpass my goals. Prior to crew, I was a competitive club/school soccer and lacrosse player since early childhood, for extra exercise I began winter training with the crew team in 2014, that experience changed my athletic direction.

I am 17, 6’ 1’’ tall, I will be rowing open weight in HS this fall, as I am now filling out my frame, looking for more competition and a chance to improve my athletic abilities and look to row light-weight in College. I want to attend college in which I can push myself in the classroom and on the water. I am open to all opportunities and am excited to hopefully work with and learn from some of top level rowers.

Academically, I have always challenged myself to learn more and strive further; I have maintained a full honors course load for my entire Middle and High School career. I am also part of the Leo's program and an inductee; we give back and support the community through various hands-on programs and fundraising activities.  In the summer, in addition to rowing, I lifeguard watching over water safety and enjoyment for the local community. I am excited in this next phase of my life as I know college will be an evolution of my character, drive and passion in all areas of my life.
